Soft Brome (Bromus hordeaceus) (09/06/2021) Southbank Barn, Henfield (garden). Smooth Brome and Meadow Brome instead have looser panicles because the pedicels (spikelet stalks) are longer. Here you can see they are short so the panicle is more compact. Also the spikelets are fatter than Meadow Brome.
Soft Brome (Bromus hordeaceus) (09/06/2021) Southbank Barn, Henfield (garden). The little orange-brown bits are the anthers. There are actually several sub-species of Bromus hordeaceus but i think this is ssp. hordeaceus as that is the most common around here. The other, ssp. longipedicallatus is around here but is very tall.
