Meadow Barley (Hordeum secalinum) (29/05/2020) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (arena bank). Meadow Barley is erect like here and has flower spikes often with purplish awns. Wall Barley instead is usually greener and spikelets tend to droop as they tend to be bulkier. Wall Barley also has overlapping auricles and swollen leaf sheaths which Meadow Barley does not (haven't yet got images of those) and Wall Barley also has longer awns.
Meadow Barley (Hordeum secalinum) (09/06/2022) Woods Mill Nature Reserve, Small Dole, Henfield (field at the back of the reserve).
Meadow Barley (Hordeum secalinum) (10/07/2020) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (arena bank). Sometimes not flushed purple, this one anyway has the green colour fading as the plant ages; it may have had purplish awns when it was younger.
