Field Scabious (Knautia arvensis) (20/06/2022) Henfield Road, Small Dole, Henfield, W Sussex (up from Small Dole Stores). Nothing else quite like it so easy to ID. Note this was once under the Dipsacaceae but that family no longer exists. Genetic testing found that Scabious (and Teasel) are closely allied to Honeysuckles (although they look nothing like them!).

Confused by this one - lots of styles/stigmas visible but no anthers, or at least I can see some small ones within the flowers. Perhaps the stigmas emerge first to catch pollen from other plants, then the anthers emerge to transfer pollen to other plants once this flower has been fertilised.

The difference between Field and Small Scabious - the latter has narrow almost linear bracts in only one row. As you can see, this Field Scabious has wide bracts in a couple of rows.
