Common Orache (Atriplex patula) (20/08/2023) Stubble field on footpath towards West Mill Lane, Small Dole, Henfield. Has wax-like crystals (like Fat Hen) for water-repellancy which is what gives the plant its frosted appearance.
Common Orache (Atriplex patula) (18/09/2021) Stubble field on footpath towards West Mill Lane, Small Dole, Henfield. This one is very crystalline - not the wax mentioned earlier, this is instead a process called "Guttation" whereby the plant as it ages (and this one is older than previous images) secretes minerals and salts via hydathodes (pores) which result in crystalline deposits on teh plant's surface.

Common Orache (Atriplex patula) (01/09/2021) Stubble field on footpath towards West Mill Lane, Small Dole, Henfield. Three versions of Common Orache - some can be really robust and upright (the one on the right), others can be small and prostrate (the two on the left). Those are definitely not Grass-Leaved because that only grows by the coast (or on salted roads).
