Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis) (21/05/2023) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (all over the place). You can just see the anthers and the style in the middle - the style in WFMN is longer than the calyx tube, Field FMN has shorter styles than the calyx tube.
Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis) (27/08/2023) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (all over the place). My little finger showing how small these flowers are (up to 3mm). Var. sylvatica flowers (as next images) are larger at 5mm. Early FMN has much shorter pedicels (flower stalks).
Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis var. sylvatica) (22/04/2020) Field leading to Horton Wood, Small Dole, Henfield, W Sussex. It's Field FMN not Wood FMN as the latter has larger flowers. This is var. sylvatica because the flowers are larger than "normal" Field Forget-Me-Not.
Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis var. sylvatica) (02/05/2020) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (arena bank). Showing its patch-forming and sprawling giss (unlike Wood FMN). It's var.sylvatica because of these larger flowers (up to 5mm) - "normal" Field FMN has them up to 3mm.
Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis) (21/05/2023) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (all over the place). Field FMN has erect hairs below but hairs oppressed tightly on the upper stem as you can see here. Wood FMN has erect hairs along the stem.
QUERY Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis) (03/07/2022) Fulking Hill, Fulking, W Sussex. This is an odd one. It's really tiny - smaller than "normal" Field FMNs. It can't be Early FMNs as those have short pedicel unlike the long ones here. But Field FMN is suspposed to have hairs oppressed to the stem (on the upper parts) but here you see erect hairs (albeit out-of-focus) as you'd expect on Wood FMN. So I am stumped as the flower is way too small to be Wood FMN. A new species? A hybrid? Woud love to know.
QUERY Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis) (03/07/2022) Fulking Hill, Fulking, W Sussex. The same specimen as per the previous image found on the South Downs. This is my little finger!
QUERY Field Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis arvensis) (03/07/2022) Fulking Hill, Fulking, W Sussex. I only found a couple of specimens of these all on their own up on the south downs. I only found it by accident as it is so tiny. So if anyone knows the answer to what this is, I'd love to know!
