Common Field Grasshopper (Chorthippus brunneus) - Acrididae (27/08/2023) Southbank Equestrian, Henfield (arena fence up from car park). Likes sunny places and this was certainly a very hot day. The main ID feature is that they have a hairy underside as you can see here. Not sure of gender. Males are smaller than females but you can't really tell unless you looks at their genitalia!

Meadow Grasshopper (Pseudochorthippus parallelus syn. Chorthippus parallelus) - Acrididae (20/08/2023) West Mill Lane, Small Dole, Henfield, W Sussex (footpath by stream leading to waterworks). They have a dark line behind the eyes. Common Green Grasshoppers (Omocestus viridulus) are instead pretty much green all over and have a pale line behind the eyes that extends over its back (the "pronotum").
