Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (17/11/2005) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). Pretty impossible to tell males and females apart - females are said to be less vivid blue head and less vivid yellow underneath and to have a narrower neck band. They are also said to have slightly scruffy appearance compared to the sleekness of a male. So I suspect this one is male.
Blue Tit F and J (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (09/06/2007) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (on teh chair just down from the garden feeders). I suspect the one on the left is a female - drabber looking and rather messy compared to the male in the previous photo. The Juvies always have grey heads and lemon-yellow around their heads and down to their chests.
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (13/03/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (on the shrub right near the bird feeders). Possibly a female - but males at this time of year which is just pre-breeding, don't have such a blue head anyway, so it could be a male. Who knows!
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (13/03/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (on the shrub right near the bird feeders). We get literally hundreds here because of the feeders.
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (13/03/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders).
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (20/06/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). I suspect this is a female - see the next image of the same specimen.
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (20/06/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). HEre's why I think female: a less markedly blue crest, duller overall and rather messy looking!
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (20/06/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). The same possible female specimen.
Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (17/09/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (on the shrub right near the bird feeders). I suspect this also a female. They all use this shrub, a kind of conifer, for perching - the bird feeders are just to the right out of shot. The tree behind and that shrub I am certain that blue tits, possibly others, nest.
Blue Tit Juvenile (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (20/06/2006) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). The next sequence are all of juveniles of which we also get masses - because we get masses of adults! They always have a grey head. This is a very young one as the gape is still very visible.
Blue Tit Juvenile (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (27/07/2008) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). A month later, the gape has gone.
Blue Tit Juvenile (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (27/07/2008) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders).
Blue Tit Juvenile (Cyanistes caeruleus) Family = "Paridae" (27/07/2008) Driftway, Upper Beeding, Steyning (garden feeders). This one has literally just fledged.
