House Martin (Delichon urbicum) (11/08/2006) Woods Mill Nature Reserve, Small Dole, Henfield. Trying to catch insects over the lake. Sadly this is the only image I have of a House Martin, but it's a good one for ID - the forked tail and the white rump. Swallows instead have tails with kind of streamers, not forked like this.
Swallow (Hirundo rustica) (29/04/2007) RSPB Pulborough Brooks (on a footpath sign!). House Martins instead are a bit larger, have a forked tail and in particular a white rump patch. Sadly no in-flight photos which would show the streamers on the tail which House Martins lack.
